The City of Hartselle is seeking a skilled and motivated Park Maintenance II Technician to join our Parks & Recreation team. This position plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing the city’s parks, sports complexes, facilities, playgrounds, and cemetery grounds. Work includes facility repair, general maintenance, landscaping, event setup, and assisting with training new team members.
Candidates with demonstrated plumbing and electrical experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain sports complexes and outdoor pavilions: clean dugouts, press boxes, and bathrooms; empty trash bins; lay sod; mow; weed; maintain fences; prepare fields for games.
- Maintain Civic Center and Aquatic Center facilities: mow, trim, edge, paint parking lines, perform light carpentry and facility repairs.
- Maintain park grounds and playground equipment: mow, weed, collect litter, remove dead trees, perform minor construction tasks (block laying, etc.).
- Maintain city cemetery grounds: mow, remove weeds and leaves, level grave sites.
- Perform setup and breakdown for special events (tables, chairs, equipment).
- Conduct minor mechanical and maintenance work on vehicles and equipment.
- Assist in training new maintenance personnel and volunteers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques, including plumbing and electrical experience.
- Knowledge of sports field maintenance.
- Ability to listen, follow instructions, and work independently or as a crew leader.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with staff, supervisors, officials, and the public.
- Skilled in landscaping, painting, light carpentry, and construction.
- Ability to operate and perform minor repairs on light and heavy equipment and handheld tools.
- Ability to read and understand manuals, written instructions, and safety guidelines.
- Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise, dirt, dust, chemicals, machinery, and potentially infectious environments.
- Requires use of protective equipment such as gloves, goggles, and masks.
- Physical work involves standing, walking, bending, lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and using tools that require dexterity.
- Valid Alabama driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Experience in construction trades, including masonry, building, electrical, and plumbing work (required).
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Park Maintenance I Technician or a combination of at least five years of experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
