Position Overview
Job Title: Portal Crane Technician
Location: South East (candidate can live anywhere in South East)
Join Konecranes, one of the world’s largest material handling companies. We are looking for experienced Portal Crane Inspectors with electrical and mechanical expertise who can work at extreme heights. You will travel extensively throughout the southeast, with occasional travel to the Pacific Northwest and Maine, and may be required to travel up to two weeks at a time. This role requires 100% travel and 100% on‑site inspections.
PrincipalResponsibilities
- Conduct detailed inspections on portal cranes and hoists at customer locations.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and structural issues on‑site.
- Work independently and manage your travel schedule to meet inspection deadlines.
- Report findings to customers via an exit meeting and written reports, communicating defects and severity professionally.
- Document findings and recommend corrective actions, including safety notifications.
- Produce electronic documentation of inspections using company tools; basic computer and Microsoft Word skills required.
- Stay updated on industry codes and regulations (OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, HMI).
- Maintain company‑issued equipment, vehicles, and assets in proper working order.
- Follow established safety rules, procedures, and customer guidelines.
- Perform other assignments as directed by the supervisor.
- Education: High School Diploma required;
Associate degree in Industrial Electrical, Mechanical Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent vocational/technical training and experience accepted. - Experience: Minimum two (2) years of electrical troubleshooting and mechanical repair; prior crane experience mandatory.
- Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; willingness to work off the ground and in varied conditions; availability for overtime; ability to travel and work out of town.
- Physical demands:
Lifting up to 25 lbs. frequently, up to 50 lbs. daily, up to 75 lbs. occasionally, and up to 100 lbs. rarely; frequent climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, overhead reaching; intermittent pushing, pulling, kneeling, crawling; 90% indoor work, 10% outdoor; exposure to heat, cold, noise, and heights. - Safety sensitive position; compliance with all safety regulations required.
Salary: $35 - $48 per hour, based on skills, location, experience, and qualifications.
Company Vehicle: Work truck and gas card; requires passing a Motor Vehicle Record check.
