Position: Evergreen- Journeyman Civil- Various Projects

A combination civil craft journeyman can perform most tasks of a carpenter, reinforcing iron, scaffold, and concrete journeyman on smaller projects to include but not limited to:

  • Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and patent- type form systems using hand tools and power tools within tolerances that conform to drawings and specifications.
  • Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs concrete structures, in fixtures of wood, plywood, and patent-type form systems using hand tools and power tools within tolerances that conform to drawings and specifications.
  • Positions and dismantles wooden structures, such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters, according to sketches, blueprints, or Yates standards.
  • Positions and secures steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce concrete.
  • Directs and trains helpers to do the same.


Overview of Primary Duties:

  • Assemble and install supporting structures, rigging, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
  • Bend steel rods with hand tools or rod bending machine.
  • Builds wooden structures, such as stairs, concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters, according to blueprints, or oral instructions, and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.
  • Cut, trim, or drill scaffold components for fit using hand and power tools.
  • Cuts bars to required lengths, using a hacksaw, bar cutters, or acetylene torch.
  • Determines the number, size, shape, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions.
  • Erects and dismantles scaffolding; inspects and sorts scaffolding as required.
  • Shapes materials to required sizes using saws, chisels, and planes.
  • Operates a transit/level to set grade for paving forms, establish sub-grade, and set grade pens for finished concrete grade.
  • Places and finishes concrete to the correct grade to ensure proper drainage and smooth ride quality that adheres to all City, State, and Federal Standards.
  • Polishes surface using a power surfacing machine.
  • Safely operates power vibrators to ensure the concrete is compacted.
  • Selects scaffold component sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
  • Selects and places rods in forms, spacing and fastening them together using wire and pliers.
  • Sets forms for alleys, streets, driveways, sidewalks, ADA ramps, inlets, curbs, and concrete structure improvements.
  • Tears down scaffolding.
  • Uses ropes and harnesses or ladders to access scaffolding sites.
  • Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of scaffold components using plumb bob, level, or other instruments.
  • Demonstrates Yates Core Values and Principles.
  • Follows Yates Code of Conduct.
  • Safety Responsibilities and Expectations:
    • Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices.
    • Reports all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
    • Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.
    • Advises fellow employees of hazardous situations.
    • Participates in workplace inspections.
    • Complies with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
    • Participates in required and assigned training.
    • Provides suggestions to improve Safety.
    • Presents a mature approach to working safely.
    • Attends prestart and Safety meetings and contributes.
  • Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Level III:
    Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related civil experience.
  • NCCER Carpenter, Reinforcing Iron, Scaffold, and/or Concrete journeyman certification.
  • Level II:
    Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related civil experience.
  • NCCER “Performance” Carpenter, Reinforcing Iron, Scaffold, and/or Concrete journeyman verification.
  • Other verified experiences or certifications with civil craft experience.
  • Level I:
    Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related civil experience.
