STEAM SYSTEMS MECHANIC (T235570)
OverviewPerform maintenance, repairs, modification, replacement, and installation of boilers and associated equipment, components, and supporting equipment located in the District Steam Systems buildings, steam vaults, and other outlying facilities on campus.
Essential Accountabilities- Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, replacements, and installations on electronic, digital, pneumatic, and PLC controls and devices for boilers and associated equipment.
- Maintain and repair boiler mechanical and electrical components, including pumps, fans, deaerators, piping, valves, heat exchangers, motors, hoists, motor control centers, power and lighting panels, emergency generators, lighting systems, air compressors, and drying systems.
- Rebuild boilers, fans, and pumps, set clearances on seals and bearings using precision tools, and rebuild gear boxes, drive couplings, shafts, and compressors.
- Packs steam valves, rebuilds steam regulators and relief valves, and sets fuel/air ratios for boiler firing.
- Interpret blueprints and specifications to determine accuracy and required adjustments.
- Maintain records and perform all service and maintenance repairs in compliance with state and insurance regulations.
- Follow safety rules and regulations for clearances, vault entry, and other applicable requirements.
$24.05 - $35.10 (commensurate with experience & qualifications)
QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience are required. An associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Systems/Maintenance, Electronic/Industrial Controls, or an Electrical program is preferred. Boiler Operator License or ASOPE Class III certification or equivalent is preferred.
Driving record must meet University underwriting guidelines, including possession of a valid driver’s license issued in the United States, at least 21 years of age, at least three years of driving experience, and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities- Proficiency in preventive maintenance, repairs, and modifications of boilers.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring devices for dimension conformity.
- Ability to understand and interpret blueprints.
- Knowledge of reverse dial indicator alignment procedures on all types of shaft alignments.
- Lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above 30 feet.
- Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and walking significant distances between and within campus buildings.
- Working within extreme temperature and humidity ranges with a variety of materials.
- Working in confined spaces.
Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm (subject to change to meet the needs of the University).
