Painter
The Painter prepares surfaces and applies a wide variety of interior and exterior products to surfaces, fixtures, furniture, buildings, walls, or woodwork using many types of materials, tools, and methods.
Job Duties- Perform skilled painting work to include masking and protecting the area, erecting scaffolding, and ladders, preparing the surfaces to be painted, filling holes, cracks, and joints, mixing colors, and applying paints, primers, stains, varnishes, waxes, lacquers, and other similar finishes to a wide variety of surfaces using brushes, sprayers, and rollers.
- Estimate, plan, and coordinate painting with other crafts and trades on construction, renovation, and related projects.
- Install and repair wall coverings to include paper, vinyl, and coverings made from natural materials.
- Inspect plans, prints, sketches, and specifications for assigned projects and related jobs and provide technical assistance.
- Respond to requests for maintenance and service from building occupants to include emergencies, painting problems, requested repairs, and other similar tasks.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with Facilities procedures, rules, and regulations; follow industry standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in maintenance painting with similar facilities.
- Lifting or carrying a minimum of fifty (50) lbs.
- Possess a current, valid driver's license valid in the state of Alabama.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion with customers and the public, including reasonable standards of personal appearance.
- Climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet.
- Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
