General Responsibilities:
Install and maintain CAW’s distribution system, including water mains, transmission lines, valves, services, taps, meter boxes, meters, vaults, loops, fire hydrants, and other water‑related appurtenances, in a manner that maximizes efficiency and safety for the general public.
Essential Job Functions:- Locate leaks and lines accurately to minimize unnecessary excavation and repair costs.
- Operate equipment such as pumps, pipe‑cutting hand tools, air compressors, backhoes, excavators, dump trucks with trailers, and other heavy equipment.
- Repair, maintain, and install water mains, curb stops, service lines, meters, meter boxes, valves, hydrants, and all other parts of a water system.
- Calculate the requirements for concrete, road gravel, fill sand, landscaping, and asphalt.
- Flush mains and service lines after water mains have been installed or repaired.
- Replace and restore paving on all patches in permanent asphalt.
- Read and use maps and GIS to locate lines and valves to shut off the water as needed.
- Communicate with customers by providing excellent customer service while performing duties.
- Track leak order tickets, reactivate service, and perform service connections and disconnects.
- Maintain traffic control in the work area using flags and signs to ensure a safe working environment.
- Operate the assigned vehicle, keep it clean, and report all mechanical problems. Maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety policies and procedures when driving company vehicles.
- Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
CertificationsValid Driver’s License required
The employee must obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months after 180‑day introductory period is complete
Experience:One (1) year of construction or mechanical experience required; previous experience in leak repair preferred. Basic computer skills preferred; excellent customer relations and communication skills preferred.

- Finger dexterity is required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard

- Ability to hear within normal parameters
- Ability to lift 100 pounds
- Loud noise; work indoors and outdoors, exposed to extreme hot/cold/wet weather conditions
- Work in proximity to operating machinery, traffic, and rural/wooded areas to locate facilities.
