Senior HVAC Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior HVAC Technician with extensive experience supporting U.S. military installations, federal facilities, or large institutional campuses. The Senior HVAC Technician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and commissioning commercial and industrial HVAC systems that support mission-critical operations.

This position requires a strong technical background, leadership abilities, and experience working within Department of Defense (DoD) environments while complying with military regulations, safety standards, and facility maintenance requirements.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting military barracks, administrative buildings, warehouses, medical facilities, training centers, dining facilities, maintenance shops, and other government-owned facilities.

The Senior HVAC Technician will maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and commission commercial and industrial HVAC systems supporting U.S. military and federal facilities. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls issues; perform preventive maintenance; support mission-critical operations; and ensure all work meets DoD, federal, safety, and environmental standards. Provide technical leadership to junior technicians and coordinate with Government personnel and other trades to keep facilities safe, reliable, and operational.

What does a typical day look like for a Senior HVAC Technician?

You will:

  • Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of commercial and industrial HVAC systems on military and federal facilities.
  • Diagnose electrical, refrigeration, mechanical, controls, airflow, and hydronic system issues using advanced diagnostic equipment.
  • Install rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, heat pumps, air handlers, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, exhaust systems, make-up air units, packaged units, and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems.
  • Install, braze, pressure test, evacuate, and charge refrigerant piping in accordance with manufacturer specifications and EPA regulations.
  • Install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and program HVAC controls, thermostats, sensors, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and Direct Digital Controls (DDC).
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and corrective maintenance on HVAC equipment to maximize system reliability and operational readiness.
  • Conduct startup, commissioning, testing, balancing verification, and performance evaluations of new and existing HVAC systems.
  • Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, specifications, and military facility construction documents.
  • Respond to emergency service calls while maintaining mission-critical facility operations.
  • Maintain equipment supporting data centers, communications rooms, medical spaces, command facilities, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with Government Facility Managers, CORs, engineers, subcontractors, and other maintenance trades to schedule repairs and minimize operational disruptions.
  • Train and mentor junior HVAC technicians and provide technical guidance on complex troubleshooting and repair activities.
  • Maintain accurate service reports, maintenance records, work orders, inventory documentation, and equipment history using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Ensure all work complies with UFC criteria, ASHRAE standards, NFPA requirements, OSHA regulations, EPA Section 608 requirements, and installation-specific policies.
  • Support facility inspections, warranty repairs, equipment lifecycle planning, and energy conservation initiatives.
  • Participate in after-hours emergency response and on-call rotations as required.

What qualifications do you look for?

  • Experience maintaining HVAC systems in military installations, hospitals, laboratories, data centers, industrial plants, or institutional facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC installation, troubleshooting, refrigeration systems, electrical controls, airflow, hydronic systems, and mechanical equipment.
