Description

The Carpenter performs skilled carpentry work to support the maintenance, repair, and improvement of all organizational facilities, including group homes, healthcare environments, administrative buildings, and transit-related properties. The role ensures all structures are safe, functional, and compliant with CARF standards and applicable building codes, contributing to a high‑quality environment for persons served and staff.

• Perform rough and finish carpentry including framing, drywall installation, trim work, cabinetry, and door/window installation
• Repair walls, ceilings, flooring, and structural components as needed
• Install and maintain fixtures such as handrails, shelving, cabinets, and safety equipment
• Perform modifications to ensure ADA accessibility and safety compliance
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and work orders
• Assist with general maintenance tasks including minor plumbing, painting, and repairs
• Support unit turnovers in group homes, including repairs and renovations between residents
• Maintain common areas, offices, and high‑traffic spaces
• Assist with facility upgrades, renovations, and small construction projects
• Support preventive maintenance programs
• Ensure all work complies with local building codes, OSHA regulations, and CARF standards
• Follow infection‑control protocols when working in healthcare and residential environments
• Maintain safe work practices and properly use tools and equipment
• Identify and report safety hazards or structural concerns
• Travel between multiple sites (group homes, clinics, offices, transit facilities) and respond to urgent repair needs and emergency situations
• Maintain accurate records of work orders and completed tasks
• Collaborate with HVAC, electrical, and general maintenance staff
• Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and carpentry equipment; track inventory of materials and supplies and request materials for cost‑effective use of resources

• Ensure repairs and modifications support a safe, dignified, and home‑like environment for persons served
• Prioritize accessibility (ADA) improvements that support individuals with IDD
• Complete group‑home unit turnovers promptly to minimize disruption to residents
• Follow infection‑control and safety protocols to protect persons served and staff
• Report environmental or structural concerns that could affect the well‑being of individuals served

• High school diploma or GED required
• 3-5 years of carpentry or general construction experience preferred
• Experience in healthcare, residential/group homes, or multi‑site facilities strongly preferred
• Knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, and safety regulations
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
• Valid driver's license required
• Must pass a statewide/criminal background check confirming no convictions for crimes of violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, or any felony offense
• Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen

• Experience with unit turnovers and renovations in residential/group‑home settings
• Familiarity with CARF standards and infection‑control practices
• Experience across multiple trades (light plumbing, painting, general maintenance)

• Skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail

• Knowledge of safety and compliance standards
• Time management and ability to prioritize tasks
• Strong communication and teamwork

• Physical requirements include lifting, climbing, bending, and prolonged standing
• Ability to lift and carry construction materials and tools (up to 50 pounds)
• Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, and in confined spaces
• Manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools safely

• Work performed indoors and outdoors across multiple facilities
• Exposure to construction materials, dust, and varying weather conditions
• Travel between multiple agency sites; may respond to urgent/emergency repair needs
