(ELES) Master Electrician (Industrial Control)
General Responsibilities

Performs skilled electrical work at the Master Electrician level involving the maintenance, repair, installation, testing, and improvement of electrical and electronic equipment throughout Central Alabama Water’s system. Helps ensure that electrical and control systems operate safely and reliably to support the delivery of a safe and plentiful water supply.

Essential Job Functions
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots electrical systems and equipment, including motor control centers, switch gear, switches and outlets, lighting protection equipment, batteries, cooling fan wiring and controls, heating and air-conditioning wiring and controls, electric door systems, and radio communication equipment.
  • Designs, builds, installs, and maintains District Metering Area (DMA) site control panels, solar DMA sites, and YSI panels in accordance with applicable Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) requirements.
  • Responds to trouble calls and emergencies at remote locations and filter plants.
  • Installs electrical facilities and wiring for transmitters, generators, instrumentation, radios, antennas, coaxial cable, and other communications equipment.
  • Installs wiring, explosion-proof fittings, and remote-control wiring at gas checkpoints, regulators, metering stations, and related facilities.
  • Installs and maintains wiring for 110- to 4,160-volt pump motors, remote controls, relays, electrical eyes, and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoots electrical, electronic, and instrumentation systems; repairs electronic equipment; identifies problems; and determines and completes appropriate corrective work.
  • Installs wiring and conduit at Central Alabama Water facilities to support electrical operations.
  • Installs, maintains, and tests radio telemetry hardware and related equipment.
  • Wires and maintains public address, alarm, buzzer, security, and telephone systems; climbs poles and towers as needed to install radio equipment.
  • Maintains instruments and control equipment used to monitor and control remote-station pressure, flow, pump operations, filter-plant pressure, turbidity, chemical processes, and tank levels.
  • Installs new switch gear at remote pump stations and installs and maintains generator transfer switches at filter plants, pump stations, and the main campus.
  • Programs, troubleshoots, installs, and replaces complex motor-management relays, including GE Multilin models FP6000, FP5000, MP4000, and MP3000, as well as soft starters, variable-frequency drives (VFDs), and infrared equipment.
  • Performs and documents motor circuit analysis and produces detailed reports based on test results.
  • Reads and prepares blueprints, sketches, and wiring diagrams.
  • Manages electrical projects and works with vendors to identify replacement equipment and parts.
  • Supervises onsite inspections of electrical systems and components installed by electrical contractors.
  • Responds to daily work-order requests from internal departments and supports planned shutdowns, repairs, and system restarts.
  • Performs inspections and preventive maintenance to identify potential problems before equipment fails; inspects switch gear and verifies that electronic settings are correct.
  • Meets with vendors and orders parts and supplies needed for equipment repairs and planned work.
  • Performs work involving large motors and high-voltage equipment, including changing out motors up to 4,000 horsepower and operating switches while wearing required arc-flash protective equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
