Scope of Role

The Salvation Army is hiring a Full Time Residential Monitor for the Birmingham Command Women’s Unit. The role involves monitoring residents, ensuring safety, maintaining records, and keeping the facility orderly.

Schedule and Hours

Monday – Friday, 4:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

Responsibilities
  • Accept and process residents staying in the housing unit/shelter; monitor activity on an assigned shift to ensure safety, security, and compliance with house rules; maintain accurate records and logs; keep the shelter neat.
  • Apply knowledge of general office procedures and basic record‑keeping practices.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to control, lead, and motivate behavior.
  • Work independently and with limited supervision while enforcing established policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Meet attendance requirements and respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly.
  • Read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis; travel distance usually within the same building.
  • Walk, stand, and lift light objects (less than 25 lbs.) – 5 to 10% of the work time.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Perform work in a lodge/shelter facility with minimal physical discomfort from weather or noise.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and at least one year of experience in security or social service work, or equivalent training/experience.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
