Position:SSVF Rapid Resolution Specialist Location: Birmingham, AL Job :9761 # of Openings:1 Program: Supportive Services for Veteran Families Position: Rapid Resolution Specialist Reports to: Veteran Services Program Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Function: The Rapid Resolution Specialist provides housing stabilization assistance and services to Veterans and their families who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness. The Rapid Resolution Specialist will work to stabilize their housing crisis by diverting to alternative crisis housing utilizing community resources and advocating with family and friends.
Qualified candidate must possess a clear understanding of issues facing people who are at risk of homelessness and be able to offer solutions to them to avoid losing their current home.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in counseling psychology, rehabilitative counseling, or related human services field is required. A minimum of two years’ experience working with homeless individuals and families including veterans is preferred. Veteran or member of a veteran family is preferred. Prior training or experience in mediation is preferred.
- Provide crisis intervention to address the immediate needs of the very low-income, chronic and non-chronic homeless veteran population.
- Assess the individual's family and community connections to assist in identifying a housing solution that at a minimum can last for ninety days.
- Evaluate and provide solutions to housing need.
- Provide mediation, conflict resolution as needed.
- Provide client access to on-going resources to support continued stability.
- Facilitate the move to housing option identified.
- Conduct home visits, when appropriate.
- Screen potential program participants for program eligibility using VA-approved forms and follow up with applicable agencies to verify information including veteran and income status.
- Process Temporary Financial Assistance, and ensure appropriate use of and documentation of any temporary financial assistance.
- Coordinate outreach efforts for the SSVF program including but not limited to establishing an outreach plan to target the potential clients that will meet guidelines for the Rapid Resolution process, develop a set schedule to visit the shelters in communities served, as well as coordinate with the VA and the Coordinated Entry System.
- Communicate effectively (under confidentially rules) with client’s services team to rapidly address and correct issues with service or support – especially living skills, employment, education, family and socialization.
- Participate in program and professional supervision, attend required staff and project management team meetings and trainings, and contribute to team-based collaborative planning
