Software Engineer Lead - Mainframe Developer

Position Overview

Software Engineering Lead – Mainframe Developer role in PNC’s Lending Technology, Credit Card Servicing organization, based in Pittsburgh, PA;
Cleveland, OH;
Birmingham, AL; or Dallas, TX.

The team provides backend support for corporate credit card operations, including processing data from Fiserv and integrating downstream systems.

• Design, develop, and deploy mainframe batch jobs and applications to process credit card data.
• Support Fiserv CICS screens, internal CICS transactions, Cobol programs, CA7, and JCL.
• Utilize SAS on the mainframe as part of JCL/Jobs.
• Collaborate with business and cross‑functional teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
• Lead and coordinate development activities including analysis, design, coding, unit testing, and post‑deployment validation.
• Assist Quality Engineering with testing, data creation, and running jobs.
• Communicate status, risks, and solutions to technical and business stakeholders.
• Apply risk management and customer‑focus principles in solution development.

• 3+ years of IBM Mainframe development experience (Cobol, JCL, VSAM, DB2, CA7).
• Proficiency with mainframe SAS coding.
• Analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience with Confluence, SharePoint, Jira, and Agile Scrum environments (desired).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain detailed documentation.
• Credit Card subject matter expertise is a plus.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience, including military service.
