Senior Mainframe Developer

Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (Eligible for conversion after approximately 6 months)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Mainframe Developer to support critical financial applications within a large enterprise environment. This role will focus on maintaining, enhancing, and supporting applications responsible for financial transaction processing, direct cash payments, payroll-related functions, and enterprise financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have a strong Mainframe development background, experience supporting financial or banking applications, and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative development team.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance Mainframe applications supporting financial operations and transaction processing.
• Analyze business and technical requirements to design and implement solutions.
• Support applications related to direct cash payments, payroll processing, financial reporting, and other financial systems.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis.
• Develop and execute unit testing to ensure quality and reliability of solutions.
• Participate in application modernization, enhancement, and maintenance efforts.
• Collaborate with business partners, analysts, and development team members to deliver solutions.
• Create and maintain technical documentation.
• Support ongoing system performance, stability, and compliance initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of Mainframe development experience.
• Strong experience with:
• COBOL
• CICS
• JCL
• DB2
• VSAM
• Experience supporting enterprise financial, banking, accounting, or transaction-processing applications.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Financial services or banking industry experience.
• Healthcare or health insurance industry experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Accounting, or a related field.
• Experience supporting high-volume transaction processing systems.
