CDL Truck Driver

Southway Crane & Rigging, Inc. is looking to add experienced full‑time CDL truck drivers to our growing Branch in Birmingham, AL.

Reports to:

Branch Manager.

Summary:

Candidate must possess a minimum of three years of commercial driving experience, pass a background check and drug test, and perform a skills verification test on site before hire.

• Load and unload cargo.
• Record amount and type of cargo being delivered.
• Take orders for new deliveries and drive long distances.
• Fill up on fuel, clean truck, and wash windows.
• Report to a dispatcher any incidents encountered on the road.
• Monitor road conditions and watch for traffic congestion.
• Follow all applicable traffic laws.
• Inspect trailer before and after trip and record any defects.
• Follow accident procedures if an accident occurs.
• Keep a log of activities.
• Report serious mechanical problems to appropriate personnel.
• Keep truck, equipment, clean and in good working order.

• Current state issued Class A CDL Driver's License (No Automatic Endorsement).
• Minimum three years of commercial driving experience.
• Ability to interpret, read manuals, and write reports in English.
• Mechanical and analytical skills preferred.
• Ability to prioritize, organize work, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to provide proper hand signals to crane and truck operators.
• Ability to verbally communicate safety issues to customers and coworkers at job site.
• Ability to work at heights and use all PPE required for fall protection correctly.
• Ability to employ physical movements associated with heavy work, including bending, stooping, lifting (up to 75 lbs.), twisting, crawling, climbing, squatting, kneeling, sitting and standing.
• Sight sufficient for operating a motor vehicle, inspecting equipment, and completing paperwork.
• Hearing sufficient for telephone contact and interpersonal communication.
• Other duties as assigned.
