DRIVER TECHNICIAN

Overview
This position is responsible for maintaining and driving various Autocar products, predominantly for prototype and test validation purposes. This position may also be required to support prototype and testing manufacturing and assembly.
EssentialJob Responsibilities
- Prioritize, implement and maintain safety practices and safe driving methods.
- Execute detailed inspections on vehicles as required.
- Support engineering, prototype and testing to develop and maintain check lists and test routes.
- Drive Autocar vehicles on closed courses and public roads.
- Ensure vehicles are safe, maintained and fueled (or charged) to be ready for the next driver.
- Comply with DOT rules and regulations
- Assemble prototype, engineering, validation, and special build vehicles. Install and validate parts & components on vehicles.
- Maintain a safe working environment through good housekeeping practices and adherence to safe work practices.
- Periodic travel with overnight stays may be required.
- Support test and evaluation activities.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Education and Experience
- Class A CDL with DOT medical card and certification is preferred.
- Class B CDL’s will be considered depending on other experience and certifications.
- One to two years related experience and/or training.
- Heavy truck vehicle product knowledge is a plus.
- Fabrication knowledge and process is desirable.
- Welding experience is a plus
- Truck manufacturing build/process experience will be desirable.
- Must pass applicable DOT background and motor vehicle records screenings
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and schematics will be desirable.
Proficient in English (read, speak and writing).
Mathematical SkillsBasic shop math skills are required. Ability to make concept prints for parts during prototyping phase.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer SkillsA working knowledge of the following will be an advantage for the candidate:
- MS Office
- Medically qualified for CDL through DOT Physical Exam.
- Capable of wearing task specific personal protective equipment which may include dust mask, air purifying respirator (i.e., half and/or full faced), safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection.
