JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the overall 3PL trucking operation, including carrier capacity, dispatch performance, safety, compliance, customer service, and profitability.
Directly supervise, train, support, and hold the 3PL Dispatch Coordinator accountable for daily scheduling, communication, and documentation.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with a high volume of existing third-party carriers and actively recruit additional qualified carriers.
Coordinate with project managers, field superintendents, foremen, customers, and internal operations leaders to forecast and fulfill daily and long-term trucking needs.
Oversee the scheduling and dispatching of third-party dump trucks, end dumps, and other approved hauling resources.
Maintain an accurate, current list of active carriers, available equipment, service areas, rates, insurance documents, DOT information, and other qualification records.
Ensure all third-party carriers continuously meet company, customer, insurance, safety, and applicable DOT requirements.
Review and approve 3PL rates, invoices, billing support, and carrier payments for accuracy and alignment with agreed terms.
Monitor key performance measures, including truck utilization, on-time performance, service reliability, safety, revenue, cost, margin, and carrier participation.
Analyze operational and financial data to identify performance issues, improve efficiency, support rate decisions, and develop profitable external business opportunities.
Resolve carrier, customer, dispatch, jobsite, billing, and service issues promptly and professionally.
Develop and maintain clear procedures for carrier onboarding, dispatching, compliance review, performance management, and recordkeeping.
Provide regular performance updates and recommendations to the Director of Logistics.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS High school diploma or equivalent required.
Three or more years of trucking, transportation, logistics, dispatch, carrier management, or related operational experience preferred.
Previous experience supervising or developing employees is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to recruit, qualify, and maintain productive relationships with owner-operators, small fleets, and external hauling companies.
Working knowledge of DOT regulations, carrier insurance requirements, transportation safety practices, and compliance documentation.
Ability to understand and use profit-and-loss information, rates, costs, margins, and other financial data.
Ability to interpret and act on performance measures related to efficiency, productivity, profitability, safety, service, and resource deployment.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, negotiation, organization, and decision-making skills.
Clear and professional communication skills with drivers, carriers, customers, field personnel, and all levels of the organization.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and the ability to learn dispatching and transportation-management systems.
Ability to maintain accurate files, records, reports, and required compliance documentation.
