Location:
Birmingham (Hybrid working)

Salary: £38,000 – £47,000 + 4-day working week (full pay)

An established environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join its growing ecology team in Birmingham. This is an opportunity to play a leading role in delivering high-quality ecological work across planning, infrastructure and nature recovery projects, within a collaborative and people-focused environment.

The organisation is known for its progressive approach, strong technical standards and commitment to sustainable working practices. Senior ecologists are trusted to lead, influence and apply professional judgement, rather than simply deliver to process.

The Role

You will take a key role in leading ecological projects, managing client relationships and supporting the development of the wider ecology team. The position offers a varied workload and the opportunity to work closely with other environmental disciplines.

Key responsibilities include:

Project management and client liaison

Delivery of Preliminary Ecology Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments

Habitats Regulations Assessments

Biodiversity Net Gain assessments

Protected species surveys, reporting and licensing support

Design of mitigation and enhancement strategies

Scoping, planning and leading ecological surveys

Mentoring and supporting consultants and assistants

Contributing to business development and securing new work

About You

Degree (or higher) in ecology, biological sciences or a related discipline

Strong understanding of UK ecological legislation and planning policy

  • Excellent survey skills, including UK Habitat Classification and specialist species surveys
  • Experience liaising with clients, statutory bodies and local planning authorities

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Proven ability to manage projects, budgets and deadlines

A collaborative, values-led approach to working

Full UK driving licence
