We are offering a permanent Electrician role at HMP Birmingham.

Hours:

39 hours per week, rota basis between 07:45 am – 16:45 pm. 1 in 4 weekends on rota with 15% additional allowance.

Base salary: £30,866 – £36,135, dependent on experience.

• Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including administrative duties aligned to the tasks.
• Actively fault‑finding / problem‑solving on electrical systems across the prison.
• Carry out like‑for‑like replacements and other electrical minor works with the relevant inspections and tests carried out, results recorded in accordance with BS7671.
• Ensure all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively to create a secure and well‑maintained environment for staff and residents.
• Assist the Responsible Person and Authorised Person when requested.
• Ensure Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work are consistently implemented and followed across all work streams.
• Assist escorting duties and other duties as required.

• City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent.
• BS7671 18th Edition (17th Edition acceptable with upskilling to 18th).
• Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
• Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
• Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills.
• Experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
• Able to work at heights, independently and use initiative.
• Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems (desirable).
• Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
• Basic IT skills.
