Title:
On‑Site Electrician
Requisition
We are offering a permanent Electrician role at HMP Birmingham.
Hours:
39 hours per week, rota basis between 07:45 am – 16:45 pm. 1 in 4 weekends on rota with 15% additional allowance.
Base salary: £30,866 – £36,135, dependent on experience.
What you will do- Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including administrative duties aligned to the tasks.
- Actively fault‑finding / problem‑solving on electrical systems across the prison.
- Carry out like‑for‑like replacements and other electrical minor works with the relevant inspections and tests carried out, results recorded in accordance with BS7671.
- Ensure all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively to create a secure and well‑maintained environment for staff and residents.
- Assist the Responsible Person and Authorised Person when requested.
- Ensure Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work are consistently implemented and followed across all work streams.
- Assist escorting duties and other duties as required.
- City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent.
- BS7671 18th Edition (17th Edition acceptable with upskilling to 18th).
- Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
- Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
- Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills.
- Experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
- Able to work at heights, independently and use initiative.
- Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems (desirable).
- Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Basic IT skills.
