At Coals Ltd. We're looking for an experienced Mobile Vehicle Technician to join our Plant & Transport team, supporting our HGV and van fleet across the South of Area 9. You'll carry out inspections, diagnostics, servicing and repairs at depots, operational sites and roadside locations, helping to keep our vehicles safe, compliant and operational. This is a field-based role offering variety, independence and the opportunity to make a real impact on the reliability of our fleet.
MainResponsibilities
- Carry out planned maintenance, servicing and reactive repairs on HGVs and light commercial vehicles.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment.
- Complete safety inspections in line with DVSA and company standards.
- Repair or replace safety-critical components including brakes, steering, suspension and electrical systems.
- Prepare vehicles for MOT and DVSA annual testing.
- Respond to roadside breakdowns and carry out repairs where possible or arrange vehicle recovery.
- Operate and maintain a fully equipped mobile workshop, ensuring tools, equipment and stock are well managed.
- Travel across depots and operational sites throughout the South of Area 9, including locations such as Coleshill, Strensham, Bescot, Longbridge, Lydiate Ash, Warndon and Ansty.
- Complete accurate job records, inspection reports and defect documentation using digital systems.
- Plan and prioritise workloads independently while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
- Work safely in live operational and roadside environments, carrying out dynamic risk assessments and following all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures.
- Build positive working relationships with depot teams, drivers and colleagues to ensure an efficient fleet operation.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified HGV Technician with at least three years' experience maintaining and repairing heavy goods vehicles, ideally within a mobile, fleet or roadside environment. You'll have strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills, experience carrying out DVSA safety inspections, and be confident working independently while managing your own workload. An NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair is essential,along with a CSCS card and a full UK driving licence, while IRTEC accreditation and experience using TEXA diagnostic equipment would be advantageous.
A Category C (HGV) licence is desirable, although training can be provided for the right candidate. Above all, you'll be reliable, safety-focused, adaptable and comfortable working across depots, live sites and roadside locations in all weather conditions, delivering a professional service that keeps our fleet moving.
- A salary between £35,000 and £45,000 PLUS Company Van provided for business use only
