About the Role:

Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Craftsman to join our Construction Services UK team. Working on major infrastructure and construction projects across the UK, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality plumbing and mechanical installation activities while promoting safe working practices, quality workmanship and operational excellence.

As a key member of the site team, you will provide technical expertise, support project delivery, and help drive a culture of Right First Time, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems, pipework and associated equipment.
  • Support the planning and delivery of temporary plumbing works solutions.
  • Work in accordance with Work Package Plans, Risk Assessments, Task Briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Identify hazards and proactively implement appropriate controls and safe systems of work.
  • Promote Balfour Beatty Values and maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm.
  • Ensure all plant, equipment and small tools are suitable, maintained and safe for use.
  • Monitor workmanship standards and promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with quality assurance activities, including BIM Field 360 inspections.
  • Support environmental and sustainability objectives across project delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, safety and project outcomes.
  • Ensure non-conformances are reported and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain awareness of project milestones, programme requirements and additional work opportunities.
Who we're looking for

Essential

  • Fully qualified Plumber, Mechanical Fitter, or equivalent trade qualification.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering plumbing installations, repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Current CSCS Card and full UK driving licence.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to working.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including nights and weekends where required.
  • Experience of temporary plumbing installations.

Desirable

  • Experience delivering works on major construction, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to manage works packages from installation through to handover.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a solution-focused mindset.
  • Desire to further develop professionally, including progressing towards Appointed Person (AP) status.
  • Experience consistently delivering high-quality workmanship and exceeding customer expectations.
