For a Refrigeration Engineer who knows supermarket or commercial refrigeration, the numbers on this role are worth a look.

Guaranteed annual package is £49,933 before overtime
, with experienced engineers earning £60,000+ OTE
.

You’ll cover an established supermarket estate across Birmingham and the West Midlands, carrying out PPM, breakdown and repair work on commercial refrigeration systems, including CO2 packs.

It's a permanent 40-hour role with a defined regional patch, 1 in 4 standby, ongoing technical training and a benefits package including private healthcare, 33 days' holiday and a 5% matched pension.

What You’ll Be Working On

This is a hands-on field engineering position supporting multiple supermarket sites across the region.

You’ll manage your own workload across an allocated area, combining planned refrigeration maintenance with reactive fault finding and breakdown work. A big part of the job is getting equipment back into service quickly and identifying problems before they result in further downtime.

Day to day, you’ll be:

  • Completing PPM on commercial and supermarket refrigeration systems
  • Attending refrigeration breakdowns and reactive calls
  • Servicing and repairing refrigeration pack systems, including CO2 equipment
  • Diagnosing refrigeration, electrical and control faults
  • Replacing failed components and completing repairs
  • Identifying defects and recommending further remedial work
  • Carrying out smaller installations and modifications within your competence
  • Completing accurate service records and site documentation
  • Working to the required safety and compliance standards
  • Joining a planned 1 in 4 standby rota
What You’ll Need

You’ll need the core refrigeration qualifications to work independently in the field:

  • NVQ or SVQ Level 2 or 3 in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
  • F-Gas Category 1, C&G 2079-1 or equivalent
  • Full UK driving licence

Previous commercial refrigeration experience is desirable, particularly if you’ve worked within supermarket or retail environments.

Experience with
CO2 refrigeration, transcritical CO2 packs, hydrocarbons, electrical fault finding or supermarket refrigeration pack systems would all be useful.

IPAF 3a/b and knowledge of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations would also be beneficial, but aren't listed as essential requirements.

You don't need to arrive knowing every system on the estate. Additional technical training is available for Refrigeration Engineers who want to develop their knowledge of CO2, hydrocarbons and other specialist refrigeration systems
.

The Package

There's a good mix of guaranteed earnings and additional overtime potential:

  • £47,398 salary including SLA
  • £49,933 guaranteed annual package before overtime
  • £2,000 joining bonus
, subject to terms and conditions
  • Overtime above contracted hours
  • 1 in 4 standby rota
  • Company vehicle with private use
  • Specialist tools and PPE
  • 33 days' holiday including bank holidays
  • Life insurance
  • Salary sacrifice benefits
  • Ongoing technical training and development
The Contract

You’ll be working on a large, established supermarket maintenance contract with a substantial refrigeration estate across the region.

The workload is already there, giving you a long-term permanent position rather than a role dependent on winning new project work. You'll also have the backing, equipment and training that comes with a sizeable engineering operation while retaining responsibility for your own regional patch.

If you're a Refrigeration Engineer or Commercial Refrigeration Engineer living around Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley or elsewhere within the West Midlands.

Experience in supermarket refrigeration, commercial refrigeration, CO2 pack systems or refrigeration fault finding would be particularly relevant.
