Working closely with the business owner, you'll take projects from technical drawings through construction and installation. Your responsibilities will include:
- Building scenic structures, sets, furniture, props and installations
- Planning materials, labour and workshop schedules
- Reading drawings, plans and specifications accurately
- Organising and maintaining a safe, efficient workshop
- Operating and maintaining woodworking machinery and tools
- Supporting and supervising freelance carpenters and workshop staff
- Solving technical and construction challenges
- Coordinating and assisting with on-site installations
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard
We're looking for an experienced Scenic Carpenter / Workshop Manager who combines excellent practical skills with initiative, organisation and creative problem-solving. This is more than a carpentry role: you'll help run the workshop, lead project delivery and shape how the team grows., You'll be an experienced carpenter or fabricator, ideally from scenic construction, events, theatre, film, television or a related field.
You'll also be: - Confident interpreting technical drawings
- Skilled with woodworking machinery and hand tools
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of projects
- Organised, proactive and solutions-focused
- Able to manage others when required
- Comfortable communicating with clients, contractors and production teams
- Willing to travel and work both in the workshop and on site
- Above all, you'll take pride in your craft and enjoy turning ambitious ideas into reality.
- £34,000-£36,000 pro rata, plus paid overtime
- Guaranteed part-time hours initially
