Position: FINANCIAL ANALYST I

As a Financial Analyst I, this role assists in the analysis and reporting of financial transactions and statistics for Knife River Corporation and its subsidiaries while providing accounting and analytical support to ensure accurate verification, control, and processing of activities supporting operations and corporate financial reporting. Prepares monthly, quarterly, annual, and periodic financial statements, analyses, reports, and data requests for management, internal departments, and external entities.

Performs day-to-day activities including calculations, reconciliations, and analyses required for periodic financial accounting closes, ensures accurate processing of vendor invoices and payments, and maintains a strong commitment to safety by prioritizing it in all daily work routines.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance or related field.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, flexible and willing to learn and/or assist in implementing new ideas and processes.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and financial statement preparation methods and requirements.
  • Proficient in personal computer applications with emphasis in spreadsheet and/or accounting software.
  • Effective human relations skills in dealing with associates, other departments, operating unit personnel, external auditors and third-party vendors or consultants.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of corporate financial data.
  • Familiar with Company policy and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain valid driver's license as travel may be required.
Preferred Requirements
  • CPA or professional certification preferred.
  • JDE Edwards and experience in construction and inventory accounting.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the analysis and reporting of financial transactions and statistics for Knife River Corporation and its subsidiaries.
  • Assist in the preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports for management.
  • Assist in research, analysis and evaluation of existing and/or proposed accounting principles, procedures and disclosures and the implementation of procedures to assure proper financial reporting and compliance.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, internal control procedures and financial statement preparation methods.
  • Provide research and accounting assistance to accounting personnel of Knife River Corporation subsidiaries.
  • Assists in the monthly analysis and accurate reporting of revenues and expenses, accounts receivable aging, accounts payable and vendor invoices and other related financial reports, both routine and ad-hoc.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned, such as preparation of data request responses, various management analyses and external auditor work paper schedules.
