As a Retirement Accountant
, you’ll support the accurate processing of retirement and benefit contributions for public employers across North Dakota. This role focuses on reconciliation, financial reporting, and employer support—ensuring funds are posted correctly, deadlines are met, and benefit programs operate smoothly. You’ll work closely with employers, payroll professionals, internal accounting staff, and external partners to maintain the financial integrity of NDPERS benefit programs.

- Reconcile retirement and insurance program accounts using established accounting principles and monthly operating cycles
- Process employer and member retirement contributions, including adjustments, refunds, and follow-up on overdue reporting
- Support employers and payroll professionals by answering questions, resolving reporting issues, and providing guidance on proper reporting procedures
- Process service purchase transactions, including billing, payment receipt, refunds, and member correspondence
- Initiate and review federal and state tax payments to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Coordinate fund transfers and maintain balances across multiple accounts in partnership with the State Treasurer and investment partners
- Maintain documentation and audit trails to support transparency, compliance, and audits
- Serve as a backup for other accounting functions and assist with team initiatives as needed
- A bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting and one year of professional accounting work experience
- A bachelor’s degree with a major in business or finance and three years of professional accounting work experience
- Proficiency using standard business software, including Microsoft Excel and Word, in a professional work environment
- Experience applying accounting principles in a professional setting, including work with employee benefit plans, monthly account reconciliations, and accounts receivable billing and collections
- Experience managing multiple accounting processes or projects while meeting recurring deadlines
- Experience developing, documenting, or implementing accounting policies, procedures, or process improvements
- Experience using People Soft HR/Payroll and Financials software or similar enterprise financial systems
- Professional experience providing guidance, training, or assistance to others related to work processes or systems

Hiring Salary: $4,438-$6,450 per month
