Job Summary And Responsibilities
The Hospitalist Fellowship Program at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, North Dakota is a 1‑year program that started over 10 years ago in collaboration with the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The program is designed for Family Medicine or Internal Medicine graduates who are interested in pursuing a career as a Hospitalist. Our fellowship began in July 2012 with two fellows.
The fellows work directly with St. Alexius’ hospitalist team. Hospital medicine is now well established and continues to grow, with demand for hospitalists far out‑weighing supply. With the concentrated inpatient training our fellowship our graduates will be well‑prepared to effectively practice hospital medicine in a variety of hospital settings.
Applicants must be a third‑year resident in good standing or a graduate of an accredited family medicine residency or internal medicine residency. Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of North Dakota is required.
Program offers significant opportunity to tailor the curriculum to personal career objectives. Some of these opportunities include participation in hospital activities, committees, and quality improvement initiatives. Rotations include adult medicine in critical care, emergency medicine, cardiology, and pulmonology. The fellow will be able to select from additional electives including neurology, nephrology, radiology, anesthesia, interventional radiology, and infectious disease.
Program Goals & Objectives- Provide additional skill and experience in the inpatient management of adult medical patients.
- Optional pediatric experiences are available.
- Develop skill and experience in providing consultative service to non‑admitting physicians or patients admitted to another physician requesting consultation in the hospital.
- Provide additional skill and experience in the needs and management of intensely ill adult patients.
- Effectively manage patients requiring admission through the emergency department setting.
- Provide opportunities for procedural experience appropriate for the care of hospitalized patients.
- American Board Certified or Board Eligible in specified area of medical specialty.
- A valid and unrestricted state medical license or license‑eligible.
- ACLS, BLS certification.
CHI St. Alexius Health is a Level II Trauma Center and the largest health care delivery system in central and western North Dakota. The system is comprised of a tertiary hospital in Bismarck and critical access hospitals in Carrington, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Garrison, Turtle Lake, Washburn, Williston and numerous clinics and outpatient services. CHI St. Alexius Health serves the residents of central and western North Dakota, northern South Dakota and eastern Montana.
The Bismarck facility is a 185‑bed, full‑service acute‑care medical center offering inpatient and outpatient medical services, home health, hospice services, durable medical equipment, and a fitness and human performance center.
Bismarck, the capital of North Dakota, is located along the Missouri River and offers year‑round outdoor recreation, dining, shopping, and entertainment. The region is business friendly with an active energy sector and offers a low unemployment rate, good schools, and a small‑town charm.
Pay Range$91,880 /year
