Position: Health Sciences Instructor (2026-27 School Year)

Bismarck Public Schools and Central Regional Area Career & Technical Center (CRACTC) are seeking a Medical Careers Instructor to join our well established Health Science pathway team within Career & Technical Education. This position delivers hands‑on, industry-aligned instruction that prepares students for healthcare careers, postsecondary education, and industry certifications.

We are especially interested in healthcare professionals who are ready to share their expertise and mentor the next generation of medical professionals.

This position will start August 14th, 2026. New Teacher Orientation will be held August 11th, 12th and 13th.

Position Type: Full‑time, benefitted position aligned to the school calendar (9‑month academic year). A teaching contract is 187 days.

Location: BPS Career Academy or Assigned BPS High School (including online course instruction)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach Health Science courses including Medical Careers/Health Sciences I and/or other Health Science courses may be assigned based on qualifications and program needs.
  • Provide instruction in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, infection control, healthcare systems, patient care skills, and professional standards.
  • Deliver engaging, hands‑on instruction in a classroom, clinical simulation, and online/hybrid environment.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and effective lab setting aligned to healthcare safety standards.
  • Supervise and assess student skill development, certifications (e.g., CPR/AED), and approved career‑connected experiences.
  • Integrate employability skills, professionalism, and healthcare career readiness into daily instruction.
  • Support student participation in HOSA and other career‑connected opportunities.
  • Collaborate with CTE staff, counselors, and administrators to support student success.
  • Participate in professional development and district initiatives.
Instructional Environment
  • Courses may be taught on a block or traditional schedule.
  • Instruction is hands‑on and lab‑based with supplemental classroom learning in a traditional classroom or online/hybrid environment.
  • Students engage in simulations, skill demonstrations, certifications, and real‑world healthcare scenarios.
Qualifications:

Required:
  • Background in nursing, allied health, athletic training, emergency services, or related healthcare field.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school students in a hands‑on learning environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and professional instructional setting.
Licensure:
  • North Dakota CTE teaching license preferred; or ability to obtain a North Dakota CTE teaching license through the North Dakota Transition to Teaching Program.
  • Candidates without a teaching license are strongly encouraged to apply. Bismarck Public Schools provides support for qualified industry professionals to transition into teaching through North Dakota CTE licensure pathways.
Preferred:
  • Current healthcare credential (RN, LPN, CNA Instructor, EMT, Athletic Trainer, or related certification).
  • Experience mentoring, training, or supervising others.
  • Interest in building partnerships with healthcare providers and postsecondary institutions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare systems and patient care principles.
  • Effective classroom and lab management skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and families.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
