Bismarck Public Schools is accepting applications for a Speical Education Instructional Coach for the school year.
The position will start August 14th, 2026.
New Teacher Orientation will be held August 11th, 12th, 13th, 2026.
A teaching contract is 187 days.
External candidates are allowed to bring in up to 17 years of contracted K-12 teaching experience.
Purpose Statement: The role of the
Special Education Instructional Coach is to provide instructional support, professional development, and guidance to educators working with students with disabilities. The coach will collaborate with teachers, school administrators, and support staff to enhance instructional strategies, create inclusive learning environments, and promote student success.
- Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to teachers, assisting them in implementing evidence-based instructional strategies for students with disabilities and autism.
- Support teachers in developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) that align with students’ unique learning needs and strengths.
- Facilitate professional development sessions on best practices for teaching students with disabilities, including behavior management, differentiated instruction, and inclusive classroom strategies.
- Guide teachers in implementing practices to enhance structured teaching and student independence.
- Observe classroom instruction and provide constructive feedback to educators to enhance teaching effectiveness.
- Collaborate with school administrators, special education teams, and support staff to ensure alignment of teaching approaches with district and state policies.
- Collaborate with Assistive Technology Department staff, Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), and Student Support Services Coordinators to support the effective use of assistive technology and evidence-based behavior intervention strategies.
- Assist teachers in analyzing student data to inform instructional decisions and measure progress.
- Support the implementation of assistive technology and other resources to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Advocate for best practices in special education and foster an inclusive, supportive school culture for students with disabilities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback and coaching.
- Problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to analyze student data for instructional improvements.
- Adaptability to various school environments.
- Deep understanding of special education laws and best practices.
- Expertise in TEACCH practices and structured teaching for autism.
- Familiarity with behavior intervention strategies and assistive technology.
- Knowledge of IEP development and implementation.
- Understanding of state and national education standards.
- Proficiency in differentiating instruction to meet diverse student needs.
- Knowledge of parallel and alternate core curriculum for students with disabilities.
- Familiarity with best practices for adapting curriculum to support student learning.
- Work under limited supervision.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive school culture.
- Develop and deliver effective professional development.
- Stay current with research in special education and autism intervention.
- Coach and model strategies for preschool through secondary. Implement and coach department goals and initiatives.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to teachers in the implementation of instructional strategies.
- Support collaboration among school staff, including special education teams, administrators, and support personnel.
- Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of teaching strategies and interventions.
- Advocate for resources and support for students with disabilities.
- This position involves working in multiple school settings, including classrooms, training sessions, and meetings with educators and administrators.
- Some travel may be required between schools within the district.
- Experience teaching students with disabilities. Five years of experience preferred.
- Experience in coaching, mentoring, or leading professional development for educators preferred.
- Experience in implementing highly effective programming.
- Experience supervising and coaching instructional aides.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Completion of Advanced TEACCH training within the first year.
- Participation in ongoing professional development related to special education, autism intervention, and instructional coaching.
- Engagement in learning new evidence-based teaching strategies and technologies to support student success.
