Bismarck Public Schools is accepting applications for a Special Education Teacher for the  school year.

This position is responsible for providing direct, specially designed instruction to students from kindergarten through age 21. Responsibilities include student evaluation, writing IEPs, developing programming, collecting data, and reporting progress. The role also involves assessment and direct service to students in special education, along with completing all necessary paperwork.

The position begins on August 14, 2025. New Teacher Orientation will be held on August 5, 6, and 7. The teaching contract is for 187 days.

External candidates may bring in up to 15 years of contracted K–12 teaching experience.

Qualifications:
  • A valid ND teaching certificate
  • Bachelor’s degree

This posting is open to both internal and external applicants, including current BPS employees in support staff, temporary, or substitute positions. Current part-time BPS teachers seeking full-time positions should also complete the external application.

Applicants will be asked to complete the EPI Candidate Assessment, which takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. This is a one-time requirement per application.

Performance Responsibilities:

Essential Functions
  • Communicate and interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Create an environment conducive to the holistic development of children.
  • Develop, select, and adapt instructional plans and materials to meet diverse needs.
  • Plan and implement appropriate learning experiences.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress.
  • Supervise students in various school settings.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow required procedures.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports.
  • Prepare detailed daily lesson plans to ensure effective instruction and substitute coverage if needed.
  • Non-Essential Functions
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Care for and properly use equipment and materials.
  • Attend and contribute to faculty meetings.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials.
  • Build cooperative relationships with staff.
  • Maintain professional growth through workshops, seminars, and courses.
  • Preferences:
    • General Education license with a Special Education endorsement
    • Experience in a school setting and working with individuals with disabilities
    • Technology skills for electronic IEPs and curriculum integration
