Transportation Engineer III
Starting Salary:
- Transportation Engineer III: $7,243 / month
- Transportation Engineer II: $5,999 / month
- Transportation Engineer I: $5,403 / month
Summary of Work: Design Division, Bismarck, ND. Shape the Future of Transportation with the North Dakota Department of Transportation! The department seeks dedicated professionals to create safe, efficient, and innovative transportation solutions serving communities across the state. December 2026 graduates will be considered for the Transportation Engineer I level.
Responsibilities- Develop reports, plans, and specifications for construction projects on state and federal highway systems.
- Develop environmental documents and obtain federal approval.
- Prepare multiple preliminary engineering studies and environmental reports needed for impact analysis, cost estimating, engineering analysis, and decision making.
- Prepare multiple project plans, including complex plans, to communicate engineering analysis to contractors and other stakeholders in roadway improvement projects.
- Schedule and coordinate project development, ensuring task sequencing and timely delivery.
- Provide technical assistance to consultants and designers; serve as contact for information, decisions, and data for projects.
- Utilize Computer Aided Drafting and Design Program (CADD) and apply relevant engineering practices, principles, standards, and guidelines.
- Transportation Engineer III: bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field; four years of professional-level engineering work experience; successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as required by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
- Transportation Engineer II: bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field; two years of professional-level engineering work experience; successful completion or ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as required by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
- Transportation Engineer I: bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
- December 2026 graduates will be considered for the Transportation Engineer I level.
- Require a valid Class D driver’s license for travel to various projects and required training.
- Employment contingent upon satisfactory completion of interview process and reference check.
