Travel:
Required throughout Western North Dakota (based at Bismarck, Minot, Williston, or Dickinson).
- Rapidly respond to workplace injuries and incidents.
- Analyze/investigate and make recommendations to prevent reoccurrence of similar events.
- Ensure proper reports are completed in a timely manner and appropriate parties are notified.
- Monitor employee work activities to ensure safe work practices in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
- Perform inspections of equipment, buildings, yards, and road right of way.
- Operate technical equipment to determine if work sites and conditions are safe for employees.
- Utilize testing equipment detectors to monitor and ensure exposure limits are not exceeded.
- Evaluate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper use and maintenance.
- Assist in development and conduct and review safety and health‑related training programs.
- Review reports submitted on vehicle incidents, crashes, employee personal injuries and worker’s comp claims.
- Responsible for safety related communications, respond to questions.
- Perform ergonomic work task and station assessments, incident investigations and safety inspections.
- Assist with pre‑employment physicals and drug testing as well as return to work recommendations.
- Be a subject matter expert and provide training for workzone traffic control.
- Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional work experience as an occupational safety professional, OR
- Five years of professional work experience as a safety professional performing duties closely related to those listed, OR
- Five years of experience in the highway transportation field.
- ND Class D driver’s license.
- Public speaking experience
- Safety training experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Extensive Highway maintenance and/or construction experience
