As an Internal Auditor at the North Dakota Retirement and Investment Office (NDRIO), your expertise will directly support the financial security of North Dakotans. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of public service, finance, and strategic oversight, with a focus on operational effectiveness, compliance, and advising leadership on risk and control matters.
NDRIO manages over $26 billion in investments that shape the financial future of the state. Your insights will guide leaders in managing risk, tightening controls, and optimizing operations to ensure decisions are grounded in accountability and transparency.
What You ll Do- Plan and perform audits of agency activities, from routine to complex.
- Assess risk, develop audit scope, and evaluate internal controls and compliance with policies and laws.
- Prepare and present audit reports with findings, recommendations, and follow-up evaluations.
- Provide advisory services on new systems, business processes, and initiatives to ensure effective risk management.
- Coordinate with external auditors and consultants, assisting with documentation, testing, and reviews.
- Contribute to risk assessments and participate in committees, task forces, and special projects.
- An analytical and detail-oriented approach to evaluating internal controls and compliance with policies, laws, and industry standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to present findings clearly, constructively, and confidently to leadership.
- The initiative to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams, projects, and external partnerships.
- A problem-solving mindset that contributes to identifying issues and strengthening processes for continuous improvement.
- Curiosity and adaptability to learn new systems, technologies, and business processes as the agency evolves.
Bachelor s degree and 1+ years of relevant work experience in accounting, auditing, business administration, finance, information technology, investments, or a closely related field.
An associate s degree and three years of relevant work experience may substitute for the above requirements; or a comparable combination of education and relevant work experience that provides equivalent knowledge and skills will also be considered.
Compensation & LocationHiring Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000 annually, dependent upon experience.
Location:
NDRIO is located in Bismarck, ND. Upon successful completion of a probationary period, the selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with the option to work remotely 1-2 days per week, while working at least 3 days onsite at our Bismarck office.
