We are seeking an experienced and engaged individual to be part of the Knife River leadership team.

This position is based out of a current Knife River location, ideally our headquarters in Bismarck, ND, with hybrid work opportunities available.

We are seeking forward‑thinking Chief Information Officer (CIO) / VP of IT to lead our technology strategy and operations. This executive role is responsible for aligning technology initiatives with business goals, driving digital transformation, and ensuring secure, scalable, and reliable systems across the organization.

The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who can partner across the business, modernize technology environments, and deliver solutions that improve performance, efficiency, and growth.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 15+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, including senior‑level roles
  • Proven success leading enterprise technology strategy and transformation
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure, enterprise systems, and cybersecurity
  • Experience supporting multi‑site or distributed operations preferred
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Duties and/or Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a company‑wide IT strategy aligned with business objectives
  • Lead digital transformation initiatives and modernization efforts
  • Oversee enterprise systems, infrastructure, and IT service delivery
  • Ensure strong cybersecurity, data protection, and risk management practices
  • Partner with business leaders to deliver technology‑driven solutions
  • Build and lead a high‑performing IT team
  • Manage IT budgets, vendor relationships, and technology investments
  • Drive data and analytics capabilities to support decision‑making
  • Plan and support integration of acquired operations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, and data analytics
  • Proven ability to align IT strategy with business goals and deliver measurable results
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, cloud platforms, automation, and IoT (as applicable)
