About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Project Manager - Cultural Resources to support our growing practice based in Bismarck, ND, or Minneapolis, MN. As a key member of our team, you will collaborate with Directors, Team Leads, and other Project Managers to coordinate projects and ensure high-quality cultural resource management services.

This is a regular, full-time salaried position, offering the flexibility of a hybrid work environment in one of the two offices listed above.

What

you will accomplish
  • Oversight of field research, data collection, analysis, and report production.
  • Training and mentoring of staff in research protocols, technical reporting, and site recording.
  • Problem-solving and process improvement to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaboration with local and regional teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Cultivation of strong relationships with agency contacts, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Additional project management duties, including budgeting, proposal preparation, and client management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to scientific integrity and SWCA's Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Drives compliance of safety policies and reporting requirements to ensure overall team safety.
  • Manage cultural resources projects as well as cultural resources staff on multidisciplinary teams on a variety of project types across business lines and region.
  • Manage staffing, fieldwork, research, report writing, and Quality Assurance/ Quality Control (QA/QC) review.
  • Maintain good working relationships with state and federal agency contacts and tribes.
  • Organize and create best practices and processes.
  • Collaborate with SWCA's managers, directors, and principal investigators on technical and business development efforts throughout the company.
Experience and qualifications for success
  • Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Able to be listed on state and federal permits.
  • Up to seven (7) years of archaeology fieldwork experience, with academic or research-oriented supervisory experience considered.
  • Able to complete small projects independently, as well as medium to large projects with assistance/oversight.
  • Thorough knowledge of NEPA and Section 106 regulations.
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards as an Archaeologist.
  • Experience with content editing of reports and project scheduling/budgeting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with project teams.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet SWCA's driver requirements.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience in client management and/or leading proposal efforts.
  • Collaborative experience working on interdisciplinary teams of scientists and planners.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (training provided if not currently certified).
  • Adaptability to changing project needs, agency requests, and evolving priorities.
  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and agency representatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven technical writing skills, including primary report authorship, with a strong track record of completing technical reports and projects on time.
