Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position requiring at least 2 years of PCU and telemetry experience, with active ND or compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Position is in an acute care hospital stepdown unit specializing in Med/Tele/PCU
- 32-bed unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with cardiac and medical conditions
- Common cases include cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, COVID Bipap, heart history, pneumonia, influenza, and sepsis
- Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:4-5 (days), occasional 5-6 (nights), and 1:3 for PCU overflow cases
- RNs required to titrate drips including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine
- Use of BiPAP, trachs, Airvo, portable and in-room monitors, and Epic EMR
- RNs must independently interpret telemetry strips
- Support staff includes nurse aides (1:10 goal) and monitor tech at nurses station
- Day and night 12-hour shifts available; every other weekend and holiday required
- Floating to all areas as needed, including full assignments in PCU and Med/Surg, and some ER holds/boarding
- First time travelers are welcome to apply
- Charge nurse present on each shift, may carry a light patient load
- Orientation includes two 12-hour shifts, typically Friday and Saturday, with independent work starting Sunday
- Any color scrubs may be worn on this unit
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- May not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility affiliated with Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity
- All requested RTO must be submitted up front, with a maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- Must provide a copy of driver's license for consideration
- Active ND or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required (pending not accepted)
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience in PCU and telemetry required
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must be able to titrate a range of cardiac drips
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
