Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN with PCU and telemetry skills for a Med/Tele/Stepdown position requiring ACLS and BLS certification.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a hospital acute care setting on a 32-bed Med/Tele/Stepdown unit
  • Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with cardiac, medical, and some surgical diagnoses
  • Typical nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5, occasionally 1:5-6 on nights, with PCU overflow at 1:3
  • Common cases include cardiac caths, EP studies, pacemakers, ETOH, COVID (including BiPAP), general surgical with cardiac history, sepsis, and influenza
  • Utilize Epic for charting and EMR
  • Shift schedule is 12 hours, day shift, with every other weekend and holiday required, and first to float
  • Floating may occur to PCU and MS units for full assignments, and to other areas as helping hands
  • No on-call requirements
  • Required to titrate drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
  • Telemonitoring includes both room and portable monitors with tech support at the nurse station
  • Responsibilities include telemetry monitoring, titrating cardiac drips, caring for complex cardiac and medical patients, and performing troubleshooting of RT equipment such as BiPAP and AIRVO
  • Charge nurse present on every shift and may carry a light patient load
  • Support provided by nurse aids/patient care techs with a target ratio of 1:10
  • First time travelers are welcome
  • Any color scrubs may be worn
  • Two 12-hour orientation shifts provided (Friday and Saturday), with independent practice beginning on Sunday
  • Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not eligible
  • Up to 7 days of time off may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; no additional RTO will be approved
Requirements
  • Active ND or compact RN license required at time of submission
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Minimum of 2 years RN experience with recent PCU and telemetry experience
  • Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
  • Experience with Epic EMR preferred
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed by any facility affiliated with Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past year
