Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU Stepdown position requiring at least 2 years of experience, PCU background, and the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips on night shifts.

Details
  • 32-bed Med/Tele/PCU Stepdown unit in an acute care hospital setting, designated as a Level 2 Trauma Center
  • Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as cardiac cath, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, COVID BiPAP, pneumonia, sepsis, influenza, surgical patients with cardiac history, and acute-on-chronic conditions
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–5, with occasional 1:5–6 on nights; PCU-level overflow care ratio is 1:3
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine (no Levo)
  • RT equipment in use includes BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo; RNs are responsible for managing this equipment beyond basic troubleshooting
  • RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips; portable monitors, room monitors, and a nurse's station tech are available
  • Charting is performed in Epic (experience preferred)
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • First to float; floating includes all areas as helping hands, PCU for full patient load, MS for full patient assignment, and some ER holds/boarding
  • No on-call or standby requirement
Requirements
  • Active ND or compact (NLC) RN license required; license must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • PCU experience required
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips required
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
  • More of a tele/cardiac-focused unit with PCU-level overflow care
  • Charge nurses are present on both shifts and occasionally take a light patient load of 2–3 patients
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs are available with a goal ratio of 1:10
  • Orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week); traveler is expected to be independent by that Sunday
  • Any color scrubs are acceptable
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Candidates may not be currently or have been employed full time, part time, or PRN by any facility associated with Common Spirit Health (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
  • RTO requests of 7 or fewer days for the 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
