Job SummaryThe Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as an experienced caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA demonstrates expert level experience as a certified nursing assistant and assists other staff as needed.
The role provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of residents as per the care plan, is expected to uphold infection prevention and control policies and personal protective equipment use, and supports other clinical staff in addition to performing its own duties.
Core duties include assisting with basic health‑care needs such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, providing psychosocial support, and assisting with transfers, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment. The NA also performs range‑of‑motion and passive exercises, assists with food preparation and dining, and encourages a positive dining experience. Documentation of resident interactions, outcomes, and care concerns is required, and the NA communicates changes in condition to the charge nurse.
Additional responsibilities may involve housekeeping, laundry, participation in wellness and recreational programs, and departmental or organizational committees.
The NA may also manage tasks related to the Restorative Nursing program, including documentation, scheduling, and leading restorative programs.
Qualifications• High school graduate or GED (preferred but not required).
• Minimum age 16 and two years' clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, and yearly competency testing and continuing education credits (12 hours annually) required.
• Completion of Restorative Nursing training within 6 months may be required.
• For applicable states, registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry if required.
• Depending on facility requirements, the role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report, proof of a valid driver’s license, and medical qualification to perform driving functions.
