Pediatric Nurse, RN Nurse, Healthcare Nursing
Registered Nurse
This position involves working in a pediatric unit. The role may also require floating to the NICU if necessary. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2-3. Common diagnoses include routine pediatric stable medical-surgical cases. Patients range in age from 0-18 years and include intermediate pediatric care and ICU feeder-grower overflow. Specific diagnoses may include respiratory issues, diabetics, seizures, failure to thrive, and jaundice.
Experience with titrating drips is required. Familiarity with common titratable and set-rate drips is preferable, including Tylenol and Keppra. Insulin experience is preferred but not required. Nurses work collaboratively, with no designated Charge Nurse on each shift. Patient care techs may be available during busier times. A pediatrician is on-site 24/7 during the week and on-call piratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, high flow oxygen, and nasal cannula.
Remote telemetry monitoring is utilized, and nurses do not need to interpret strips. Self-scheduling is based on seniority, with block scheduling considered based on unit needs. Weekend shifts include every other weekend or every third weekend. Holiday requirements include two holidays per year. Nurses may float to the NICU and newborn nursery as needed. The unit offers a unique environment with themed rooms and play areas.
