American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position requiring PCU experience and the ability to read cardiac strips.
Details- 13-week contract on a 32-bed Med/Tele/PCU stepdown unit in an acute care, Level 2 trauma hospital
- Adult and geriatric patient population including cardiac cath, EP studies, pacer, ETOH, COVID BiPAP, general surgical with cardiac history, medical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia/COVID, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis cases
- Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4-5, occasionally 5-6 on nights, with PCU-level overflow at 1:3
- RNs required to titrate drips including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine (no Levo)
- RNs required to read and interpret own cardiac strips
- Charge nurse present on both shifts and occasionally takes a light patient load of 2-3
- Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit with a goal ratio of 1:10
- RT equipment on unit includes BiPAP, trach, and Airvo, with RNs responsible for troubleshooting
- Tele/monitor techs available with portable monitors, in-room monitors, and a tech at the nurses station
- Night shift schedule of 7p-7a, with rotating 7-7 shifts occurring no more than weekly
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating required to all areas as helping hands, including PCU and Med/Surg for full patient assignments, and occasional ER holds/boarding
- EPIC EMR used, experience preferred but not required
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Active ND or Compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU experience required with ability to read and interpret cardiac strips
- Tele/cardiac RN experience preferred
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Active state license verification and Nursys verification required
- Provide direct patient care on a stepdown Med/Tele/PCU unit, including titrating drips and interpreting cardiac telemetry strips
- Collaborate with charge nurses, patient care techs, tele/monitor techs, and respiratory therapy support staff
- Any color scrubs permitted
- Unit-specific orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility and may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
- PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront for the 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
