This position is in a Med/Tele Stepdown unit. The department has 32 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5, occasionally 5-6 on nights. PCU level care overflow has a ratio of 1:3. Common patient diagnoses include adults and geriatrics with cardiac conditions. Types of patients include those with cardiac caths, EP studies, pacemakers, ETOH, Covid, and Bipap. Occasional general surgical patients with heart histories are also included.
The patient population consists of those with pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis. Experience as a Tele/cardiac RN is desired, with PCU experience. Epic experience is preferred. First-time travelers are welcome. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, and Lasix. Low dose Dopamine may be utilized. There is a Charge Nurse on each shift who occasionally takes a light load of 2-3 patients.
Patient care techs are present on the unit, with a goal ratio of 1:10. RNs will troubleshoot equipment like Bipap, trachs, and airvo. There are Tele/Monitor Techs on the unit. RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own strips. Shifts consist of 7a-7p and 7p-7a. If shifting rotations, the 7-7 rotation will not occur more than weekly. Weekend requirements are every other weekend, and holiday requirements are every other holiday.
Floating requirements include assisting in all areas as needed, managing a full patient load in PCU, and taking on some ER holds. Scrubs of any color are permitted, and scrubs are not provided. Two shifts of unit-specific orientation will be given. This is primarily a Tele/cardiac unit. There are restrictions on applicants who are currently employed with affiliated facilities. Additional requests for time off must be submitted upfront and may not be approved after submission.
A cancellation policy allows for up to four shifts per contract or three shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks. Charting is done using Epic. A BSN is not required. The trauma level is 2. The care setting is acute. This role is classified within the Nursing division. Nights are primarily required, with a first to float policy.
