Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Pediatric RN for a 13-week night shift contract requiring 2 years of Peds/MS experience and PALS certification.

Details
  • Acute care, Level II trauma pediatric unit with 7 beds
  • Patient population ages 0-18 including routine stable peds, intermediate peds, and ICU feeder/grower overflow (surgical-ortho, appys, GI, MVAs)
  • Common diagnoses include respiratory conditions, diabetes, seizures, failure to thrive, and occasional jaundice/bili babies
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with self-scheduling based on seniority; block scheduling may be considered
  • Every other weekend or every third weekend required
  • 2 holidays per year required
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Primarily floats to NICU and newborn nursery, with possible use for 1:1 sitting as census fluctuates
  • First to float on the unit
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • RT equipment includes CPAP, high flow, and nasal cannula with minimal troubleshooting required; RT in house 24/7
  • Remote tele monitoring using Phillips monitors; RNs are not required to read or interpret strips
  • No charge nurse on shift; two RNs work together to cover the unit
  • Additional tech support available when census exceeds 5 patients
  • Pediatrician in house 7 days a week until 5pm, on call overnight
Requirements
  • Active ND state or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and PALS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of Peds/MS nursing experience required
  • PICU experience preferred
  • NICU experience preferred
  • Must be able to titrate drips including Tylenol, Keppra, and Insulin (candidates without insulin experience will be considered)
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care in a locked, zoo-themed pediatric unit featuring an aquarium room, bathtub room, play rooms, and individually themed patient rooms
  • Support pre-op and second phase recovery care for select pediatric patients
  • Join a close-knit team; strong communication skills and independence are key to success on this unit
  • Any scrub color is acceptable
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Not eligible if currently or previously employed full time, part time, or PRN with any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO requests will not be approved after submission
