Job Summary

The organization is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) specialized in Step Down Unit care for a facility in a hospital setting. The position involves providing high-quality patient care in a telemetry-focused environment, managing a variety of adult and geriatric patients with complex medical conditions such as cardiac issues, post-procedural care, and respiratory support. The role requires a commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and compassionate care on night shifts.

  • Schedule:

    12-hour night shifts, with a minimum of 48 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications:

    Valid nursing license, BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification, and a minimum of 2 years of RN experience. Experience in a step-down, telemetry, or cardiac unit is necessary.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    Epic electronic health record experience and willingness to be a first-time traveler.
  • Unit Notes:
    • Department:
      Medical / Telemetry
    • Bed count: 32
    • Nurse-patient ratios: generally 1:4-5, occasionally 1:3 on overflow nights
    • Common patient conditions include cardiac catheterizations, EP studies, pacemakers, ETOH, Covid Bipap, surgical and medical cardiac with associated diagnoses such as pneumonia, COVID, sepsis, and influenza.
    • RN titration of drips:
      Yes (including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, low-dose Dopamine; no Levo)
    • Charge nurses are present on each shift and may occasionally take a light patient load.
    • Nurse aides/patient care techs are on the unit, with a goal of 1:10 ratio.
    • Respiratory therapy equipment (Vents, Cpap, BiPap, High Flow oxygen) is available, and RNs troubleshoot issues related to these devices.
    • Telemetry/monitor techs are present, and RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips.
    • Shifts:

      7a-7p and 7p-7a; rotation occurs weekly.
    • No call or standby requirement.
    • Floating to other units (Medical/Surgical, Emergency Room) is required as needed.
    • Scrubs:
      Any color provided.
    • Orientation:
      Two 12-hour shifts in the first week, then on own following Sunday.
    • RTO (Request to Return to Origin) needed upfront.
    • Start date:

      10/19/2026. End date: 01/18/2027.
    • Additional notes include emphasis on telemetry and cardiac care skills, with the ability to interpret EKG strips.
