The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation, and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to residents. The RN collaborates with residents, families, and inter‑disciplinary colleagues—including providers—to plan, implement, and evaluate care. The RN demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise, using appropriate age and population specific standards in their assigned clinical setting.

Responsibilities include preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, resident assessment, resident education, and various nursing interventions. The RN may serve as charge nurse, delegating appropriate tasks to licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel while ensuring safe and reliable resident care. All duties are performed within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined by the Nurse Practice Act, Administrative Rules, and the American Nurses Association standards.

• Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program (e.g., CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA) or hold a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing.
• Current, unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where practice occurs, or multistate licensure within a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
• Capability to obtain and maintain required department‑specific competencies and certifications.
