Beaver Creek Archaeology, Inc. (BCA), a cultural resource management (CRM) consultancy with offices in Bismarck, ND, and Artesia, NM, is seeking one more enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Bismarck team as a Seasonal Full-Time Archaeological Field Director.

At BCA, we specialize in cultural resource projects throughout the central‑western United States, with a focus on the Great Plains region. As a Field Director, you will play a critical role in conducting archaeological field surveys, excavations, and data collection. This position offers the opportunity to lead fieldwork projects, mentor teams, and contribute to advancing cultural resource management initiatives.

Position Overview

This position is based out of our Bismarck, ND office, with a standard minimum 40‑hour workweek during regular business hours (Central Time Zone) to be expected. Overtime can be expected based on project demands. Overtime is paid at time and a half. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with education and experience.

  • Fieldwork:
    Expect varied daily fieldwork, which may include walking up to 65 acres or 7‑10 miles per day over diverse terrain. Your physical capabilities should support this, and we’re confident this variety will keep the work exciting and dynamic.
  • Subsistence Allotments:
    For long workday days (10+ hours) and those with overnight stays, we offer a $60.00 per day Subsistence Allotment, added to your paycheck.
  • Lodging:
    For field assignments, BCA will provide single‑occupancy hotel accommodations. However, for times when you are not actively working on field assignments, you would be responsible for securing your own lodging.
  • Transportation: A company field vehicle will be provided to ensure your transportation to and from the project area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership:
    Direct and participate in archaeological field surveys, excavations, and site monitoring with knowledge of field techniques.
  • Team Management:
    Assist with supervision of field technicians, fostering collaboration and productivity.
  • Data Collection:
    Supervise archaeological and historical site field documentation, mapping, and field data analysis to support comprehensive site interpretations.

    Collaboration:

    Work closely with project leaders, fellow field members, and the office to ensure efficient project execution and achieve project objectives.
  • Safety Oversight:
    Enforce safety protocols to maintain a secure work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field (or equivalent field experience) along with completion of an archaeological field school or similar training program.
  • At least one year of archaeological fieldwork experience, with some project management responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in artifact analysis, mapping, and site documentation.
  • Strong leadership, organizational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to work and navigate outdoor environments in various weather conditions and varying terrains.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills with English language proficiency in both spoken and written.
  • Valid Driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Ability to work long hours in diverse weather conditions, including variable temperatures, rain, and direct sunlight.
