This position is based in Bismarck, ND and is required to report to the Central Office for onboarding, training, meetings, and other business needs. Upon successful completion of training and demonstration of satisfactory job performance, the selected candidate may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work schedule in accordance with agency policy and operational needs.

Summary of Work

As the Quality Assurance Auditor for our Benefit Accuracy Measurement (BAM) unit, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy, fairness, and integrity of North Dakota's Unemployment Insurance program. This position conducts independent audits of unemployment insurance claims to verify benefit eligibility, payment accuracy, and compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and agency policy.

Working as part of a small, collaborative team, the Quality Assurance Auditor manages a weekly caseload of audits, with multiple cases progressing through various stages at the same time. The role involves reviewing claimant and employer information, analyzing wages and eligibility requirements, verifying work search activities, conducting fact-finding interviews, and preparing clear, well-supported findings. Success in this position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

This position reports directly to the Quality Assurance Administrator within the Benefit Accuracy Measurement (BAM) unit of the Unemployment Insurance Division.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have at least six years of relevant work experience involving auditing, compliance, fact finding, investigations, eligibility determination, and/or claims processing/review.

Education in related field may substitute experience on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the work experience requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in unemployment insurance programs, claims processing, auditing, investigations, quality assurance, compliance, or roles involving eligibility determinations and interpretation of laws, regulations, policies, or procedures. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to analyze information, evaluate documentation, prepare accurate reports, and make sound decisions based on established guidelines.

Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel, as well as Adobe and other electronic documentation systems. Successful candidates will be detail-oriented, organized, proactive, and inquisitive, with a high level of integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while conducting thorough and objective reviews.
