Job Description & How to Apply Below

The North Dakota Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is looking for a System Mechanic II to join our Facility Management team and help care for the HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical systems that support the ND State Capitol Campus.

This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, solving problems, and collaborating with a team. Your work helps create safe, comfortable, and reliable spaces for state team members, elected officials, and visitors. You don't need to know everything about the campus or systems on day one. We are looking for someone with a mechanical background, HVAC experience, and a willingness to learn and grow.

You'll join a supportive team that values teamwork, respect, reliability, and pitching in wherever help is needed.

What You’ll Do
  • Keeping building systems running smoothly by operating and adjusting building automation systems to maintain comfort, air quality, and energy efficiency, including responding to system alarms.
  • Maintaining and repairing equipment through preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and hands‑on repairs of HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Troubleshooting problems with mechanical, electrical, and control systems while following procedures and safety standards.
  • Participating in an on‑call rotation that will include evenings and weekends.
  • Supporting customers and teammates by responding to work orders promptly and communicating progress and completion.
  • Assisting with improvements including equipment upgrades, installations, and seasonal changeovers.
  • Monitoring operations by conducting routine walkthroughs, checking equipment, logging operating conditions, and keeping maintenance records for inspections and audits.
  • Being a team player by pitching in wherever needed, whether supporting another trade, helping with grounds or custodial work, or assisting a teammate.
What You Will Bring
  • Experience maintaining and repairing HVAC, refrigeration, or mechanical systems.
  • Mechanical knowledge and a practical, hands‑on approach to problem solving.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new systems and ask questions.
  • Ability to follow procedures and work safely and reliably.
  • A team‑first mindset and respect for others.

To be considered, you must have at least three years of experience maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, or heating plant equipment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualification Of a Current Refrigerant License

Current refrigerant license preferred.
