Position: HVAC Technician | Full Time | Bismarck Event Center

Position

Summary

HVAC Technicians perform general facility maintenance and repair tasks of average to considerable difficulty to ensure the facility remains presentable, operable, and efficient. Tasks include ensuring proper working condition of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems and occasional groundskeeping and general trade tasks. This role pays an hourly rate of $30.00 – $35.00.

About The Venue

Oak View Group proudly provides venue management and food and beverage operations for the Bismarck Event Center, the premier entertainment and convention destination in downtown Bismarck. The venue hosts a wide variety of events each year, including concerts, sporting events, trade shows, conventions, banquets, and community gatherings. With multiple event spaces, flexible meeting rooms, and a central downtown location, it serves as a hub for entertainment, business, and civic engagement across the region.

Responsibilities
  • The primary focus of this HVAC Technician position will be on the facilities’ HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Perform skilled preventative maintenance and regular maintenance on a wide range of facility systems, including, but not limited to, pumps, motors, filtering devices, air conditioning and heating equipment, and other mechanical devices.
  • Monitor, service, and repair various HVAC, plumbing, and other utility systems throughout the facility.
  • Respond to emergency requests for repair services, diagnose problems, and either immediately make repairs or call on a supervisor for additional assistance or direction.
  • Perform basic plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, welding, carpentry, and other trades‑related tasks.
  • Schedule and monitor the facility Building Automation System (BAS).
  • Make adjustments to thermostats, variable air volume (VAV) boxes, and other interior space controls on a regular basis to maintain a comfortable and efficiently maintained environment.
  • Recommend repairs needed on equipment and facility structures by preparing and submitting time, material, and cost reports.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, inventory records, and replacement schedules for equipment and supplies.
  • Solicit quotes from vendors, obtain approval for purchases or services, and order and pick up parts and supplies.
  • Provide direction to and oversee assignments to full‑time and part‑time maintenance laborers.
  • Maintain storage areas and equipment in designated areas in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Plan work to ensure cost‑effective use of labor and materials.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities with a view toward department and company goals and energy conservation.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Degree or certification showing the completion of a two‑year program from either a trade or technical school, or a community college.
  • Two or more years of experience in general facility maintenance, construction, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of practical experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining HVAC and plumbing equipment and systems.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an HVAC license at the journeyman level.
  • Prior experience performing basic plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, welding, carpentry, and other trades‑related tasks is a plus.
  • Experience maintaining repair logs and inventory records is a plus.
