Position: Building Maintenance Tech Bismarck

This position performs technical duties in the repair and maintenance of city buildings.

Responsibilities
  • Inspects city buildings and facilities for repair and maintenance needs.
  • Performs HVAC maintenance and repair.
  • Repairs and maintains plumbing systems.
  • Makes carpentry repairs.
  • Repairs and maintains mechanical equipment.
  • Orders building maintenance materials and supplies.
  • Inspects fire alarms and fire extinguishers.
  • Schedules and inspects work performed by outside contractors.
  • Responds to after‑hours emergencies.
  • Performs minor electrical repairs.
  • Performs painting and drywall repair.
  • Maintains and repairs sprinkler systems.
  • Assists with snow and ice removal operations.
  • Performs related duties.
Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of general building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, and electrical system maintenance and repair principles.
  • Knowledge of carpentry construction and repair principles.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes and safety regulations.
  • Skill in reading blueprints and schematic drawings.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Skill in prioritizing and planning.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
