Job Description

This position performs technical duties in the repair and maintenance of city buildings.

Examples of Duties

* Inspects city buildings and facilities for repair and maintenance needs.

* Performs HVAC maintenance and repair.

* Repairs and maintains plumbing systems.

* Makes carpentry repairs.

* Repairs and maintains mechanical equipment.

* Orders building maintenance materials and supplies.

* Inspects fire alarms and fire extinguishers.

* Schedules and inspects work performed by outside contractors.

* Responds to after-hours emergencies.

* Performs minor electrical repairs.

* Performs painting and drywall repair.

* Maintains and repairs sprinkler systems.

* Assists with snow and ice removal operations.

* Performs related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

* Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

* Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

* Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Supplemental Information

* Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of general building maintenance.

* Knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, and electrical system maintenance and repair principles.

* Knowledge of carpentry construction and repair principles.

* Knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes and safety regulations.

* Skill in reading blueprints and schematic drawings.

* Skill in the use of hand and power tools.

* Skill in problem solving.

* Skill in prioritizing and planning.

* Skill in interpersonal relations.

* Skill in oral and written communication.
