ROLE OVERVIEW
This is a seasonal position; you can use your winters off to travel, hunt, fish, or pursue other activities you enjoy while your benefits continue year round. The role involves completing various laborer and small equipment operation tasks to produce quality grading projects.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIESSafely perform labor/operation tasks including any of the following:
- Sets and reads grade stakes and measures distance from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretch tight line.
- Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
- Levels earth using pick or shovel.
- Performs flagging duties as needed.
- May operate small-powered hand tools.
- May operate small equipment including bobcat, tractor, or roller, or move from one site to another.
- Safely and properly perform maintenance (lubricating, fueling, and cleaning) and operate small equipment such as bobcat, tractor, jackhammer, roller, pickup truck, air compressor, tractor/packer, steel drum, or rubber tire roller.
- Hooks up and unhooks small trailer to pickup.
- Fills sandbags.
- Operates skid steer for cleanup of materials.
- Drives truck/skid steer trailer combination to transport skid steers and other equipment and material from site to site.
- Communicates effectively (verbal, listening, written) and works with people under high-stress situations. Demonstrates self-motivation, teamwork, and good interpersonal skills, maintains positive customer relations, and acts courteous and respectful of others. Monitors and discusses production problems with co-workers and supervisors.
- Ensures MSHA, OSHA, safety, and environmental regulation compliance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Acceptable interpersonal communication skills.
- Equipment maintenance and operation experience.
- Preferred 5 years of grade checking and staking experience.
- Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card, and acceptable driving record.
- North Dakota Flagging Certification (required).
